Researchers from the University of Bristol have determined that that when it comes to football or their wives, men choose their
partners almost five times as much as their teams.
For the study, which was commissioned by Agency Droga5 for a new Puma campaign, researchers tested Newcastle United fans who are known for being some of the most loyal and passionate fans in the world.
They measured the fan's stress levels by getting them to perform tasks such as cutting up pictures of their team and their partners, sticking needles into voodoo dolls, of their favourite player and injuring him for the next game or their partner and making them ill for a week.
While most of the fans said they had as much affection for
their team as their wives, the results showed that they were far more
stressed when destroying a picture of their partner.
