Oreo made a very brave move as a product. They took a stand on gay rights on Monday, netting 143,000 Likes. There were 18,000 comments, not all were positive ones. The brand posted a
status update with a rainbow-hued version of its cookie with the caption “Proudly support love!” and “June 25/Pride.” Orea has 26 million fans on its Facebook page.
Many fans wrote positive sentiments, but there were others who expressed exasperation at the brand's stance and some even vowed not to buy the product anymore. There was also a heated dialogue over the issue, and the conversation eventually took a turn to religion.
Oreo reps could not be reached for comment. The brand also put the message on its
Twitter feed.
Was this a smart move by the brand? Should a brand even attempt to broach this sort of topic? What do you think'?
