Louis C.K. is taking it upon himself to self distribute tickets! This isn't the first time he's done something with his own show by cutting out the middle man. Both a comedian and online entrepreneur, he will sell his tickets exclusively on his website for a flat $45 rate.
C.K. says making shows affordable has always been a goal of his, unlike many events today where the fees to shows are over inflated and have surcharges and handling fees.
“Some ticketing services charge more than 40 percent, and ironically, the lower I’ve made my ticket prices, the more scalpers have bought them up — so the more fans have paid for a lot of my tickets,” C.K. explains in a press release.
Fans don't have to sign up for anything to purchase a ticket, and there's an opt-in email. The only thing you need is a credit card to purchase. C.K. notes that he and his team have the right to cancel any tickets with refund if they are sold elsewhere for anything above the original price.
“There are some other rules you may find annoying but they are meant to prevent someone who has no intention of seeing the show from buying the ticket and just flipping it for twice the price from a thousand miles away,” C.K. writes.
His site is having difficulty loading, presumably because there's on increased activity on the site.
What do you think of cutting out the middle man? It's a lot more work we agree, and there's more transparency and no extra frills involved, and it does say something about entrepreneurs like C.K.: ballsy!
Will other entertainers follow his footsteps? What do you think?
