According to Science Daily, professor of psychology Richard Harris claims that some people are just more tuned in to personal relationships, which makes them better at remembering people's names since they're actually have an interest in remembering them.

As for others, the reason why they have difficulty in remembering is that they simply aren't that engaged when they're being introduced. Harris says you can use those tricks like making up a mnemonic device or repeating the person's name a bunch when you first meet them, the real trick to remembering is just to really "show more interest in the people you meet."
