This year's Oscar could very well be the most anticipated event of the year after Obama's inauguration day. The hype surrounding the glamorous event is just relentless - Bollywood's cinematography breakthrough in the worldwide mainstream market, host Hugh Jackman's comical performance, Kate Winslet's big year (especially after driving 2 Golden Globes home!) and an anticipated first red carpet encounter between Angelina Jolie and Jeniffer Aniston. And of course there's the obligatory women's haute couture chit-chat amongst self-proclaimed fashion polices.

At Menknowpause, we will not discuss any of those petty issues right now; we're way classier than that. We will however, discuss something that's relevant to you and this week's issue: Men's suits. We'll see how Hollywood's movers and shakers rock the red carpet with sharp, sophisticated and well-cut suits that will definitely set the trend this year.

The Rookies

Among the young stars, Robert Pattinson (first from left) outshined his peers. Pattinson looked thoroughly like a young man with a vision - the kind that we saw in Leonardo DiCaprio 10 years ago. His look is wholesome: Well-structured jacket, well suit material for a glamorous event and the perfect pair of shoes - the kind that says playful but sophisticated. The only downer is that his pants are slightly lengthy. But his overall look is easy on the eyes thanks to his radiant complexion and clean-shaven appearance.

On the other hand, an unshaven Dominic Cooper struts the most propotionate suit and pants, but unfortunately he appears less clean. He fails to pull off the rugged look (if he was trying to do that), especially when he's posing like that (second from left).

We're not fond of Emile Hirsch's shoes and pants - the baggy cut doesn't flatter his figure - looking otherwise great in his jacket (third from left). As for Zac Efron (fourth from left), his suit seems trendy and hip, but we're not sure it's an Oscar-material suit.

The young duo of Slumdog Millionaire, Madhur Mittal & Dev Patel, is our favourite. And yes, we love the movie (and Freida Pinto too, or course) Anyway, although these guys are skinny, but the construction of the suits make them look like they could be Dior Homme models. We like the way Mittal looks simple and smart, but formal at the same time.

Look at this picture below and tell us if there were anyone else who looked as fun and comfortable as they were. They look like they own their look, and that's priceless.

The Gentlemen

Well-dressed regulars like Brad Pitt, Josh Brolin, John Legend, and Sean Penn were stunning as usual. Dressed in their individual styles, these guys always know how to walk the red carpet like real men.

The Unexpected

Pleasant surprise comes from Robert Downey Junior who dressed smartly in a classic two-button suit. The catch of his look is the daring statement around the collar - grey and shiny black hues - complemented by well-cut pants and a very charming date for the event.

Sir Anthony Hopkins, too, caught us by surprise. Dressed in a rather unconventional suit cut and shiny patent leather dress shoes, he has never looked better than this on the red carpet. Honestly we never thought that an older gentleman would be able to pull this look off - but he's proven us wrong.
